Greetings, I'm Kanilina Clerge, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to introduce myself and share my story with you. My journey into the world of therapy has been shaped by a deep passion for helping others, and my personal experiences have infused my practice with a unique blend of empathy and cultural richness.
About Me:
I was born on the beautiful island of Haiti, a place where vibrant culture meets resilient spirits. My heritage has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the beauty of life, which I bring into my therapeutic work. When I'm not in the therapist's chair, you'll often find me embracing the outdoors, especially at the beach, where the rhythm of the waves mirrors the balance and connection I aim to foster in people's lives. I'm also an avid dog lover, and spending quality time with my furry companion is one of life's simple joys that brings me immense happiness.
My Journey into Therapy:
My journey into the field of therapy was profoundly influenced by my experiences as a teacher at a special needs school. During my time there, I witnessed the toll that unmanaged stress and emotional struggles were taking on the caregivers of my students. It became apparent how these challenges were affecting not only their marriages but also the dynamics of parenting and their overall well-being. This realization ignited a passion within me to explore the intricate web of human emotions and relationships more deeply.
Over the years, my work as a teacher revealed to me that trauma, much like unmanaged stress, can have profound and lasting impacts on individuals and their families. The effects of trauma ripple through every aspect of wellness, affecting mental, emotional, and even physical health. It was this understanding that drove me to pursue a career in therapy, aiming to provide the support and tools needed for individuals, couples, and families to heal and thrive.
My Specialties:
As an LMFT, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, and I specialize in two key areas: trauma and borderline personality disorders (BPD). These are complex and challenging issues that can affect individuals and their loved ones profoundly. My goal is to provide a safe and compassionate space where healing and growth can occur.
Trauma can manifest in various ways, and its impact can be long-lasting. Whether you've experienced a traumatic event recently or are carrying the weight of past trauma, I am here to guide you towards recovery. Together, we will explore the emotions, triggers, and coping mechanisms that can help you regain control over your life.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can present unique challenges in relationships and personal well-being. Through evidence-based therapies and a deep understanding of BPD, I assist clients in managing their symptoms, improving interpersonal relationships, and fostering a sense of stability and self-worth.
My Approach:
I believe in a client-centered and collaborative approach to therapy. Each person is unique, and I tailor my methods to meet your specific needs and goals. Whether you're seeking individual therapy, couples counseling, or family therapy, we will work together to create a roadmap for positive change.
In our sessions, you can expect a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. I will provide you with practical tools and strategies to cope with life's challenges and enhance your overall well-being.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. It is an honor to serve as your therapist and guide on your journey towards healing and personal growth. If you're ready to take the next step in improving your mental health and relationships, please don't hesitate to reach out.
